Super Food Tempeh

I have chosen Tempeh, Sauerkraut and Miso for this Fermented food theme. Tempeh promotes bone health and it also helps to relieve hot flashes from menopause. Sauerkraut provides probiotics and vitamin K2, which may help you strengthen your immune system, improve your digestion, reduce your risk of certain diseases, and even lose weight. Miso reduces the risk of inflammatory bowel disease and has a very alkalizing effect on the body and strengthens the immune system to combat infection. It helps preserve skin beauty through its content of linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid that helps skin stay soft and free of pigment.

I choose to make sauerkraut salad to retain the maximum benefits of sauerkraut. It is good to include raw food in our diet. The refreshing and tangy salad will balance up the grilled spicy chicken. Grilling is one method of cooking which gives us a smoky meat taste and yet retains the juiciness of meat. Children or young people will like the taste of this tempeh because the sweet fragrant maple syrup blends well with the miso. Maple is a very good alternative to sugar which also may help protect against cancer. Maple contains high antioxidants and treats pigmentation.

Healthier Heart

Lentils with Vegetables soup and Tuna Rye Sandwich is a wholesome balanced meal with simple preparation and no fuss of cooking. The Rye bread is a perfect match with Tuna salad when combined with avocado beetroot spread. It is convenient to use the beetroot ketchup which is high in antioxidants and also a heart-friendly sauce. It gives the sandwich an earthy flavor. This sandwich can be addictive! I chose the natural can lentils because it helps me to reduce the work and times of soaking and cooking the beans.

Do you know that our gut plays a particularly important role in sustaining and protecting the overall health and wellness of our bodies? The food we eat is broken down in the gut to a simple form that can enter the bloodstream and be delivered as nutrients throughout our bodies. All this is possible only with a healthy digestive system.

So, what affects our gut health?

The type of food we eat, the environment we grow up in, our emotional stress and medications etc, contributes to the bacterial makeup of our gut. Our parents have been right all along when they make us eat our veggies and fruits.  On top of that, chicken and fish, nuts, seeds and legumes are all gut-health friendly foods and excellent sources of both protein and fiber.

We will be introducing different recipes to boost your gut health. They are easy to whip up for yourself, your family or when you have guests over.
